This is the regular production, as opposed to the shortened version of the old bayonet from the Great War. The Garand was the first semi-automatic combat rifle adopted by the US army in the early stages of WW2. The novelty feature of the locking device comes from the Krag Jorgensen Danish system. The blade is a bit scruffy and there are the remains of some serial numbers, but there are no US ordnance marks left at the forte. The saving grace of this piece is the scabbard, which is in magnificent condition, as, being made of plastic, they tended to degrade quite rapidly over the last 60 years or so. This one is in almost ex-stores condition, except for a couple of small dings on the back edge. |
