militaria item Enfield cutlass bayonet, model 1859, 2nd pattern
- British (German make - American contract)
This was introduced in 1859 for the Royal Navy to supply a need for a cutlass and a bayonet in one weapon for the naval rifle of the era, a .577 Enfield cap and ball weapon. This is an A & E Holler example - ie a Solingen blade. There are no UK ordnance marks, so this is almost certainly an American export item.

militaria item US Navy Lee bayonet
- American
These bayonets were probably either captured Mexican pieces from the border wars in the early 20th century or were custom built by Remington for the US Navy Lee rifle. This is a modified form of the Mexican issue, inasmuch as it has a US-style steel belt hook where the Mexican originals had a leather one.

Of a parcel of 12, 'WASHINGTON / NAVAL YARD' was burnt into the wooden grips of nine in an oval border around 'US ORD. DEPT.' (see photo - but this one is NOT marked). The Washington Naval Yard was the largest US Navy ordnance store department in the US and was located in Virginia.
