This clean example is marked in Arabic on the forte of the blade for Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co of Solingen. The grips are walnut and the Turkish star and crescent and tughra are in evidence on the blade and the pommel. This is the pipe-back version, somewhat rarer than the fullered variety and longer to boot. The blade is based on the classic G98 German Mauser bayonet. There is substantial evidence of field service sharpening on a grindstone. However, this does not detract from the overall look of the piece, which, for its age, is pretty good. The scabbard seam is intact and the leather has most of its original surface finish. |
