Title S84/98 bayonet by W&K, regimentally marked
Nationality German
Period 1927
Sold

This is a prime example of the new S84/98 bayonets ordered by the Weimar government in 1927. This one was made by Weyersberg & Kirschbaum as part of a production run ending in 1930. Both guard and scabbard are stamped 14/JR.15.30 (14th Company/15th Infantry Regiment, weapon no 30).

There are no serial numbers - this practice only came later, along with manufacturers' code letters. In this case, both blade and scabbard are stamped WuK and the back of the blade is stamped 27 along with a Weimar Waffenamt inspection stamp. The latter is also stamped on the back of the pommel, the top of the flash guard and the obverse of the cross guard.

The blade retains some 70% of the factory blue finish and has been carefully sharpened for combat. There are some oil stains to the fruitwood grips and a few dents to the back of the scabbard.

Just a quick note to let you know that my bayonet arrived safely today. Many thanks for the speedy delivery and overall excellent service! For its age this bayonet is in fantastic condition.

I will mark your website as a 'favourite'...

Hanger arrived safe and sound 11.30ish today. Very pleased, it's as expected. Your excellent pics make all the difference in terms of confident buying over the net. As a matter of interest, the frog, which as you said is very a/f, is, as you thought, 'spot on'. On closer inspection it is a mk.1 Naval Frog, designated 'for cutlasses'. Date seems around 1860ish give or take.

By the way, I think your site is very user friendly. Seems to work much better than many and up to date, a rarity!!!
