The 1911 carbine was a straight pull bolt action magazine rifle, an excellent design. Regular infantry and artillery units wore this with a steel scabbard, the leather one being only for Pioneer/engineer units. This example has iron fittings throughout. This example has a blade with most of its factory finish and is marked 'Elsener Schwyz'. The steel scabbard has lost all of its blue finish, leaving it with a rather brushed, matte look. The wood grips are in excellent condition, with a small half-inch scar on the obverse. The iron mounts are very lightly patinated. |
