Title KS98 sawback bayonet - Kaiserliche Schutztruppe
Nationality German
Period 1911
Sold

This rare bayonet was issued to the German troops in SW Africa and is regimentally marked with matching numbers both on the scabbard and the hilt, which is unusual. The blade has much of its original factory finish and was made at the Erfurt arsenal, dated 1911 at the forte, with all the original government inspection stamps throughout.

The scabbard has much of its original blue finish mixed in with some medium age patination. The reverse leather grip is fine; however, the obverse one is slightly damaged at the guard and the face of the leather is quite badly worn. However, this is common on African bayonets as leather simply did not stand up to the climate.

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
