This was the standard bayonet for the 6.5mm bolt action magazine rifle of the Norwegian army from the end of the 19th century to WW2. The unique locking system was later copied on US bayonets for the Springfield and Garrand rifles. There are matching numbers on hilt and scabbard. The crowned K at the forte is for the Kongsberg arsenal. The design is superb - light, practical and beautifully balanced. There was also a longer version with a 14.5-inch fullered blade. Approximately 100,000 were made. The blade measures just under 8.5 inches and retains most of its factory finish. There is a very light age patina to the ironwork of the hilt. The wood grips are in good shape with some age staining and scuffing overall. The scabbard would appear to have most of its original black gloss finish. |
