Title India pattern Brown Bess bayonet
Nationality British
Period c 1810
Sold

This example has Makin stamped on the forte as the maker, together with the government inspection stamp in the form of a crown with the number underneath. These were carried by the British army throughout the Napoleonic Wars and, on account of the inspection stamp, is either for British regulars, volunteers or militia, not an EIC example.

The condition is reasonably clean, having been carefully hand cleaned. There is a little thinness of the metal at the base of the socket, where the site notch would engage it. Otherwise, it is a nice clean piece with a few bruises and some old surface pitting here and there.

Thank you for the receipt. It wasn't necessary so soon. I was happy to get it when we meet. You have a most excellent reputation and I trust you. It is a pleasure to do business with you and hope to do more.

I am more and more pleased with the sword, and am wondering whether to do an article on it...
