Perhaps the most original of all the ersatz Mauser bayonets of WW1, having a genuine double function as both knife and bayonet. It is also light for carrying. These were only made by Deutsche Maschinenfabrik A-G, Duisberg. Apart from the maker/patent stamps, there is a German Army acceptance stamp on the edge of the forte. This has some 60% original olive green paintwork to the hilt, plus 70% black paint finish to the guard. The scabbard has virtually all the original black paint, which has a matt finish on the front. The leatherwork is dark brown and in reasonable shape, except at the press stud, now missing, where it has rotted away. Please do not confuse this with the WWA copy (made in India)! As design goes, a true case of 'Vorsprung durch technik'! |
