This is the first of Austria's short-bladed bayonets and would have seen use during WW1 and possibly with training units during WW2. It has extensive regimental markings on the crossguard, as well as a weapon rack number. It is made in the Steyr factory and is stamped with the Austrian double eagle and OEWG, the Steyr mark. The grips are fruitwood, with a little bruising and oil stains here and there. The scabbard has, at some point, sadly been used as a hammer and is somewhat distressed on the leading edge of the scabbard. The black paint is of fairly recent origin, I suspect. Otherwise, it is a clean and serviceable bayonet. |
