Marked on the back of the blade 'Manufacture d'Armes St Etienne Juin 1878'. This was the bayonet carried on their second bolt action black powder rifle through all of France's campaigns in Africa and Indo-China in the latter half of the 19th century before the introduction of the Lebel in 1886. This is priced low because the blade has suffered abuse throughout its edge and there is one deepish patch of pitting and several minor ones. However, having said that, it has matching numbers throughout and the grips, although a little oil stained, are in good shape. The scabbard has a patinated finish. |
