Title Bayonet for Chassepot rifle, model 1866
Nationality French
Period 1867
Sold

This bayonet is the classic French sidearm used in the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-71. It was the first breech-loading rifle carried by the French army, a basic bolt action with no magazine. This was made at Mutzig, a French arsenal in Alsace (see back of blade for details).
