The hilt incorporates the arms of Hungary and various arms of Austria (introduced 7 November 1915), with the motto 'Indivisibiliter ac inseparabiliter'. On the back is 'Geschutzt' (= patented) Hirschler' and the blade is stamped 'Offizielle Kriegsfursorge' (official war fund) - ie it is an official piece for raising money for the war effort.

The paper knife is just short of 30 cm long and is cast in solid nickel silver. The casting is of magnificent quality and the background has a slightly frosted look. The highlights are polished. Its condition is excellent for its age, with some expected bruising here and there, particularly on the blade of the knife and on the base of the rock on which the coats of arms sit.
