This is the last model of the Lebel bayonets, a St. Etienne arsenal product marked 'EF' on the base of the blade and the throat of the scabbard. The blade is 34mm long, slightly longer than the WW1 shortened examples. It would have been carried in the early years of WW2 by the regular army and later by the Goumiers (French North African troops.) Overall condition is exellent, except for mismatching hilt/scabbard numbers. The iron funiture of the hilt is patinated a light grey colour. The hilt has most of the original factory blue finish, except at the point. Both blade and scabbard may well have been officially shortened from a 1916 model. The grip is white metal. |
