Title US light cavalry sabre, model 1860
Nationality American
Period 1864
Price £0.00
Sold

This classic Union cavalry sabre, with nearly 100% of its original polish to the blade, is marked 'ROBY//W.SHELMSFORD//MASS' at the forte, Roby being the most desirable of the Union makers (the Ames swords have recently been reproduced in India). On the other side of the forte it is marked 'US 1864 A.G.M.'

The blade is superb and there is a brazing seam which runs the whole length of the scabbard, although the screw on the back of the scabbard is missing. The hilt is lightly patinated with traces of old lacquer, which I have deliberately left in place.

In 35 years of dealing, I have never come across one of these with all the factory polish on the blade.

Just to let you know that the bayonet arrived safely this morning by Royal Mail. I am delighted with it and it will be put to very good use at some forthcoming events.

The dirk arrived this morning and I could not be happier with it! Excellent little piece, most unusual... I look forward to doing more business with you, as finance permits; rest assured you will be highly recommended to my collecting colleagues.
