Title Turkish spear head
Nationality Turkish
Period 17th century
Price £0.00
Sold

This is the best of a small collection of Turkish spear heads, purchased near Marmaris several years ago. It has a fluted shaft and some rudimentary decoration to both sides of the blade. There is scattered pitting throughout the piece, which has a nice grey patina. The overall length is 48cms.

These spears were typically carried by Turkish cavalry in the many wars with Austria in the 17th century and, in particular, the attempt to seize Vienna in the 1680s. They would, of course, have been mounted on long wooden shafts. There is a lead Turkish cultural export permit seal with 'M' on one side for Marmaris and 'EX' on the other.

testimonials

Just to let you know that the bayonets arrived safely this morning and I am extremely happy! They are everything that I had hoped they would be, but better! I am extremely pleased that i purchased them from you. The 1867 Albini ... is an absolute beauty, the blade is immaculate. The other is in fact in far better condition that I had imagined as well. So all in all, I couldn't be happier! Many thanks Chris.

I very much look forward to doing business with you again in the near future.
