This replaced the earlier 'IY' title, worn from the inception of the unit in 1901. The TA was formed in 1908 under the Cardwell reforms from the old yeomanry and volunteer infantry units of earlier days. The 'T&Y' section are cut from a single piece of gilding metal and brazed onto the rest. The SY was first raised in 1794, disbanded in 1848 and later raised again in 1901. It amalgamated with the Sussex Yeomanry in 1922, forming two batteries of field guns as part of a four-battery unit, the 98th (Surrey & Sussex Yeomanry) Brigade, RFA. It served with distinction in both world wars. |
