Title Cavalry officer's helmet plate
Nationality Swedish
Period c 1900
Price £90.00

This would have been mounted on a bright metal cuirassier pattern helmet, modelled on a Prussian example. They were in use with the Swedish army from about 1860. This particular example (about 11 x 11cm) has a nice fire gilt finish and would appear to be a cast, as opposed to die-struck, production.

The lugs at the reverse, while they appear to be original, have been flattened somewhat and there appears to be some lead filling (it appears shiny black in the photo, but is in reality a greyish colour) of the centre of the badge, done perhaps to strengthen the casting.

Prov: from the J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd. Pattern Book Archive, sold at auction by order of the National Army Museum, London.
