Title Royal Irish Fusiliers band pouch badge
Nationality British
Period c 1900
Price £0.00
Sold

In 1881 the 87th Prince of Wales Own Royal Irish Fusiliers and the 89th (the Princess Victoria's) Regiment of Foot were amalgamated to form the RIF. The eagle commemorates the capture of the eagle of the 8th French Regiment by the 87th at the battle of Barrosa in 1811.

This was worn on the white buff leather music sheet case, which was normally carried on the bandsman's right rear; on the other side, he would have carried a short band sword. It is an odd badge inasmuch as it is rarely seen in photos which normally show the men from the front. It is in excellent condition and probably pre-dates 1914.

Just a short note to let you know that I have collected the Police fur cap this morning from the Post Office. I am really happy with it, and for sure I will give a thumbs-up to your service. This was the first item I ever bought from you, and I hope it will not be the last.
