Title Royal Engineers officer's sword, 1856 model
Nationality British
Period c 1860
Sold

The blade is marked Engineer Volunteers with the winged thunderbolt on one side with the royal cypher VR on the other. At the forte, it is marked 'R.BROWNE / & CO. / NEW BOND ST. / LONDON W.' The brass scabbard indicates staff rank, majors and above, and, sadly, is quite badly dented in places.

The last 8 inches of the blade on both sides show considerable wear, perhaps through damp storage at some stage. However, in view of the relative rarity of this pattern of sword, I felt this was not too great a put-off.

If a purchaser wanted the dents removed from the scabbard, I could recommend a UK restorer who would probably do this for about ?30.

Just a short note to let you know that I have collected the Police fur cap this morning from the Post Office. I am really happy with it, and for sure I will give a thumbs-up to your service. This was the first item I ever bought from you, and I hope it will not be the last.
