Title RAF officer's sword, George VI
Nationality British
Period c 1940
Sold

This is a good example. However, the bulk of the gilt finish has been polished off the hilt and guard, leaving approximately 10% original traces. The grip is giant rayskin on beechwood and there is a retailer's mark at the forte: 'CONWAY / WILLIAMS / MILITARY / OUTFITTER / 48 / BROOK ST. / W.1.' (London).

The leather of the scabbard shows a little age wear, but is generally in excellent serviceable condition. The blade has 90%+ original factory finish. On the forte opposite the maker's mark, there are a few minor rust spots

Increasingly now a hard sword to find. Wilkinson used to sell these in their heyday for the best part of ?2,000, but, since they have gone out of business, RAF officers have no option but to source them from dealers like myself!!

I collected my iron cross this am from the sorting office. Thank you for the medal; as before it's a very nice one. Thank you for your prompt service and I look forward to purchasing more in the future from you and your wonderful site.

...acquiring this bayonet has completely changed my way of thinking on collecting bayonets. I have become extremely fond of the bayonet... Thanking you once again for the very professional way in which you handled the money [going to the wrong account] problem.
