This rare example, now with extensive 20th-century paint refinish to the hilt and scabbard mounts, is dated 1861 with Prussian inspection stamps and is maker-marked for Clemen & Jung of Solingen. This was the first pattern cutlass for the infant Prussian navy of the mid-19th century. The blade, now heavily varnished, is in excellent shape. The bulk of the grip wire is missing. The scabbard has all its original issue stamps clearly visible in the leather and metalwork. |
