Title Prussian cavalry officer's sabre, 1852 model
Nationality German
Period c 1890
Sold

This fine sabre has a splendid damascus blade, slightly altered at the point, perhaps blunted and then resharpened. The top line of the German inscription translates as 'Baron Max von Brenken to his dear friend', but the recipient's name (second line) is almost illegible. The grip is fishskin bound with silver wire.

No maker mark, but the damascus is traditional construction, not an engraved simulacrum.
