This regiment was an amalgamation of the 100th (the 1st Battalion) and the 109th (the 2nd battalion) Foot. Its origins are in 1761-95 as part of the British army; in 1795, they were disbanded and, from 1853-81, served as the HEIC (Hon. East India Co.) 3rd (Bombay European) Regiment, becoming in 1861 the 109th Bombay Infantry. This is the helmet plate for Home Service; for foreign service, a glengarry badge was worn on a white helmet. The centre plate is a magnificent gilding metal example; the rest of the plate is rather grubby by comparison, but would clean nicely, if you were so minded, with a little ammonia and soap. |
