Title Pouch belt plate, 21 SAS Artists
Nationality British
Period c 1947-65
Sold

The Artists Rifles is a volunteer regiment of the British Army, the full title of the regiment currently being 21 Special Air Service Regiment (Artists)(Reserve). This particular badge probably predates 1965, when stabrite badges were introduced throughout the British army, being made of the more traditional white metal.

The regiment derives the name 'Artists' from its former life as the Artists' Rifles, formed by Lord Leighton in the 1860s for artist enthusiasts in the Kensington & Chelsea area, largely speaking, who wished to practise their rifle skills. The 21 SAS have had a distinguished military career ever since their initial involvement in the Malayan emergency in the 1950s and early 60s.

The condition is excellent, with perhaps one small break to the twigs extending from the base of the wreath (this may be a deliberate design flaw). Not a common badge on the market, as former veterans of this type of unit tend to treasure their memorabilia.

I have in the last six months inherited my late father Alan Swain's police memorabilia collection along with much paperwork receipts etc. I would like to pass on to you my thanks for such good dealership with my father going back to the late 80s and well into the 1990s.

Collected bayonet this morning, all safe & sound as described. Been looking for one as good as this for years. Thank you.
