This was worn by Ukrainian military after the Germans pulled out from occupation at the end of WW1 and, later, by Stepan Bandera's men, when they served in the Ukrainian Militia under German command in WW2 against the Russians. Blue and gold are, of course, the Ukrainian colours. The badge itself is of two-piece construction: the trident element being pinned to the reverse. It would appear to be a gilt wash on a non-ferrous base of some sort. (The trident of Volodymyr the Great (950-1015), officially adoptd by the U in 1918.) Its condition is excellent for its age. I bought three of these about ten years ago and this is the last one, recently rediscovered in my stores! |
