Fine example of a private purchase item with double fullered blade and brass fillets to both sides of the tang (this ensured a certain water-proofing of the grip as a measure against rust). Most importantly, the blade is maker marked for a Darjeeling (in Assam) maker. I suspect this was made with a British officer or senior Gurkha NCO in mind. The blade has most of its lead polish finish and has been expertly sharpened. It is complete with both its skinning knife and its sharpening steel, which would appear to have wooden hafts as against the buffalo horn scales of the main knife grip itself. The leather scabbard is in excellent shape and both it and the grip are brass mounted. |
