This badge, with the logo 'Viribus Unitis', commemorates the early years of the war, 1914-1915 struck in a laurel wreath between the soldiers. The enamelled arms are those of Germany, Austria and Hungary. This tiny badge (nearly 2.2cm long) looks better in real life than it does in my photo. Most of the silver-plated finish has disappeared on the front, showing only in the highlights on the uniform of the two soldiers, Austrian and German. In real life, it looks an overall coppery colour, whereas my photo highlights the patchy remnants of the silver-plating. The hook is missing from the reverse, hence the price. |
