This is a reasonably uncommon NCO qualification badge for, essentially, a naval clerk. Bear in mind that, at this period, not everybody could read and write, even in Germany, let alone proficiently, so someone with a good working knowledge of written German, and with good handwriting, would have qualified for this post. It is a die-struck gilt bronze badge pinned on to a navy blue woollen broadcloth backing on a tin base. Sadly, much of the backing has been severely mothed at some stage, though this all appears now to be dead. |
