Instituted on 13 December 1916 for award to all service personnel who had seen at least 12 months' field service before the enemy and who had participated in at least one battle, this is medal is struck in zinc. The Latin motto, Vitam et Sanguinem, means 'With life and blood'. It has its original clean ribbon, slightly faded on the front, and the original grey patination on both sides. |
