Title Eickhorn trench knife
Nationality German
Period c 1916
Sold

This is a classic Eickhorn piece with the back-to-back squirrel trademark, which predates 1921 and is thus almost certainly a war time piece. It would have been a private purchase item and, indeed, there are many photographs showing officers wearing them in front line scenarios.

The hilt appears to be chequered ebony, but could possibly be stained beech wood. The scabbard retains a reasonable amount of the original paint finish, while the hilt has a somewhat worn and patinated look. The leather strap work is a little defective. The blade retains much of its original factory finish.

Sword arrived today. Fabulous. This is an excellent example of a fighting sword of its period, and a real gem. The 1828 Pattern is such a gorgeous sword, and this is a fine example. Even my bride is impressed and she doesn’t really get swords.

I collected my iron cross this am from the sorting office. Thank you for the medal; as before it's a very nice one. Thank you for your prompt service and I look forward to purchasing more in the future from you and your wonderful site.
