Nice example of this pattern, with matching unit marks to hilt and scabbard for artillery supply column (AM stands for 'artilerie munition'). No part of this sword has suffered recent machine cleaning and the back of the hilt is lightly browned. The leather grip is in excellent shape with a few minor scrapes. This sword was copied from the English 1796 pattern Light Cavalry sabre, which in turn was copied from an Austrian hussar model influenced heavily by Turkish design. A very stout sword, but not as well balanced as the 1796 British sword on account of the hilt being a little too heavy. |
