Marked on the hilt 'F.A.46', the sword blade is engraved on one side with Lower Saxon Field Artillery Regiment No. 46 (in German) and on the other with a depiction of a field artillery team. The black painted scabbard (of which 90% of the original finish remains) indicates a post-1907 date. This sword was probably the property of a 'Einjaeriger', a one-year volunteer from the middle classes, who served as a trooper, but had the right and the means to wear a sword of this quality when off duty, hence the regimental stamps on the back of the guard. The EPNS finish to the hilt is somewhat worn. There is a good leather grip. |
