These are typical of the first half of the 19th century, when epaulettes still had a practical function of defending the shoulder from a sabre blow. One button remains, marked 'Blandford Troop YC', one of the DY troops of this period. They are made of brass with a reinforced tinned iron underlay which holds the scales together. Their condition is good for their age, though one button is obviously missing and there is one small age crack to the edge of one of the epaulettes. |
