At the outbreak of war, there were eight independent cavalry divisions, comprising two to three cavalry brigades in each and attached to individual army corps. Typically a cavalry division had 305 officers and 6,864 other ranks. '6.K.//T.D.' (6 Kavallerie Truppen Division) was one of these. This is a nice silver hallmarked example, with clear Austrian hallmarks, and it is also maker and quality marked. The 'M' at the bottom of the badge stands for St Michael, viz the figure slaying the dragon, presumably the divisional patron saint. It measures 3cm long and its condition is very fine. |
