The blade (36.5 inches) was made by Abraham Stamm in Solingen in the mid-18th century. The hilt and scabbard are later and date from the Napoleonic wars. The royal Portuguese arms were engraved on the hilt, probably in 1816 when Ferdinand VII married a Portuguese princess. The grip may be of rhino horn. In addition to the German inscription, there is a Spanish religious insription on the blade. |
