This rare sword is by Eickhorn of Solingen. The blade is in excellent shape for its age, with a nickel-silver finish, and engraved on one side 'In Treue Fest' (the Bavarian motto), and on the other with the regimental details, including the name Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, the Colonel of the Regiment. Bavaria only had two heavy cavalry regiments and Franz Ferdinand's death at Sarajevo was the initial spark for WW1. The price reflects the fact that the scabbard is missing its wooden liners and one throat screw, as well as the relatively modern repaint of the scabbard body. The leather and wire wrap to the grip are in excellent shape. |
