Title 2 Prussian Landwehr officer's cap cockades
Nationality German
Period 1914-18
Price £50.00

The Landwehr were the first line of the reserve, the second line being the Landsturm. The concept of the Landwehr cockade dates back to the Napoleonic Wars and was always in the form of a Maltese cross. These cockades would have been worn on the front of the cap, under the national cockade in black, white and red.

The cap itself would have had a short black leather or vulcanite peak.

These measure 2 and 2.5cm across. One has stitch holes punched out on each side, the other having short brass prongs for insertion into the cap. Both are in exellent shape, with only a little minor patination to the 'silver' elements.

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
