This was introduced in 1848 when the Kaiser Alexander Guard Grenadier regiment(1st Prussian Foot Guards) raised a Fusilier battalion in addition to their numbers. Three of these were worn: one at each side and one at the rear of the mitre cap. The original battalions wore flaming grenades in the same places. The officer's version was gilt. This is a die-struck brass badge, with lead infilling on the reverse. It measures 6cm across, one of the smallest examples of the Prussian eagle badge. There are traces of silver finish clearly visible on the wings of the eagle and the orb, suggesting that the badge was once silver-plated. If anyone has any idea as to what else this might be, please let me know. |
