Title Tsarist other ranks waist belt clasp, WW1 era
Nationality Russian
Period c 1914
Price £50.00

This is the standard Russian other ranks buckle of the Great War worn up until the Bolsheviks changed the insignia in the 1920s. This has the coat of arms of imperial Russia, with St George and the dragon mounted on the breast of the double eagle, which carries the state coat of arms of the constituent parts of the empire.

It is die-struck brass, but is undoubtedly a ground find on account of the rather heavily patinated condition, now partially polished. It has also become a little warped through service wear and tear and being in the ground. The fittings on the reverse are somewhat faulty and the central spindle is missing. There is a maker's mark (in Cyrillic) on the hook of the buckle.

testimonials

Having received the beautiful medal that has been the subject of many recent phone calls, I am absolutely delighted with it. More importantly, the research you provided into the military backgrounds of all those involved made it all the more poignant. Thank you for your highly professional and friendly help and advice throughout the transaction.
