Title Surrey Yeomanry mess kit button, 2nd pattern
Nationality British
Period c 1911-22
Price £10.00

This (13mm diameter) is the small button for mess kit (waistcoat and cuffs), also serving for the dress/forage cap. It is unmarked silver or heavily plated.

The SY was first raised in 1794, disbanded in 1848 and later raised again in 1901. It amalgamated with the Sussex Yeomanry in 1922, forming two batteries of field guns as part of a four-battery unit, the 98th (Surrey & Sussex Yeomanry) Brigade, RFA. It served with distinction in both world wars.

This possibly has a lacquered finish, hence no tarnish, and its condition is good.

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
