Because of its bright nature, I strongly suspect that this originally came from a peace time parade uniform and would have been stitched into the shoulder. The two pips and the aluminium braid bar at the base of the epaulette give the rank and the indication of four years' service. It is constructed over stiff card, with a grass green cotton underlay signifying police, and a dark brown cotton centre with the bright bullion carrying a matching dark brown chevron pattern. Its condition is consonant with pre-war wear and having been taken from the shoulder of a tunic. |
