This is the type of flag that was flown over small headquarter units in the field and used on small patrol boats and U-boats when on service. The lanyard, sadly, has been cut, evidence perhaps of the piece being looted off a building or boat, perhaps. There is what appears to be a small maker's mark, 'A/42', in the middle of the white edge. It measures 60 x 90cm (approximately 2 x 3 ft), and is in superb condition for its age, with nice bright colour and minimal fading, perhaps because it has been kept in a linen cupboard for at least the last 20 years! It is made of high quality cotton. |
