This is the standard buckle for the Prussian army in WW1, though the pattern is 19th century. They were replaced by the all-steel buckles in 1915. These were worn by all Prussian other ranks infantry, artillery and train battalions. They normally had a leather wiederhalt, but this one lacks it. There is a typical crease to the centre of the crown from service wear, but otherwise, apart from a small scratch on the left, it is in pretty good shape, with the original brazed gatepost catch. (The first photo was taken in a light tent to cut out reflections; the bottom one was taken in broad daylight. It is bright and shiny.) Prov: from the J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd. Pattern Book Archive, sold at auction by order of the National Army Museum, London. |
