Title Order of the Red Star of the Soviet Union
Nationality Russian
Period c 1956
Sold

This order was instituted before WW2 and originally could be awarded to such people as the KGB for peacetime heroics, but was most commonly awarded in WW2 and later for army gallantry or long service. The reverse has the mark of the Moscow mint and a number (3514425) which was probably awarded on 30/12/56 for long service.

The quality of Soviet era medals is always quite startling, so much so that Fattorini's, the famous Birmingham medal makers, have a whole showcase of Soviet orders on display in their factory to encourage their own work force and show the quality of finish that can be achieved.

The condition is excellent, with very little wear and tear, and it has its original spinner on the reverse. The medal is made of high grade silver, with a beautiful translucent red enamel.

[From a vendor, rather than a buyer]

I'm delighted that you are happy with the badge and I hope you can sell it to someone who will value owning it.

I tried to sell it on eBay but they won't accept Nazi items. I then contacted several dealers via a Google search who mostly offered me £40-£50 after some haggling. Most of the other dealers tried to conceal its true value in their replies and also lacked manners which doesn't inspire confidence.

Ultimately it's about trust. I should think that most prospective sellers have done their own research and therefore know roughly what their item is worth. You were the only dealer who had the integrity to concede that my valuation was approximately correct and I respect your comment that you can't offer this as you need to make a profit. Your honest approach is greatly appreciated and I felt comfortable taking the risk in sending it to you.

Thank you for a smooth transaction

The dirk arrived this morning and I could not be happier with it! Excellent little piece, most unusual... I look forward to doing more business with you, as finance permits; rest assured you will be highly recommended to my collecting colleagues.
