Title Napoleonic aquatint print by Martinet - Cuirassier Prussien
Nationality French
Period 1814
Sold

This is plate 35 from the Troupes Etrangeres series, published by Martinet (15 rue du Coq, Paris). These were produced for the occupying armies in the first occupation in 1814 on Napoleon's exile to Elba. This is a nice, sharp image of a Prussian cuirassier wearing a recently captured French sword.

The print measures 18.2 x 26.8cm and the hand colouring is still good and bright. It is a little cribbled round the edges and there are some small pin holes suggesting it has pinned in place at some stage. There is a little dirt/foxing to the bottom edge.
