This is a standard Great War issue item, of the dry variety rather than the oil-filled type. It has a broad arrow mark on the base, indicating government issue, with the date 1918. It is made of brass and has a blackened finish for war service, which is somewhat worn on the outside.
There is with it a brown leather case with the broad arrow stamp and 'C&R.BRINSLEY. // 1916.' Only a small portion of the leather strap remains.
All screws are present and correct, but the hard rubber ring on the base has started to decompose and about 30% has fallen away.
