This is the standard Luftwaffe combat belt of the middle years of WW2. Prior to the outbreak of war, these were normally in brown leather, but by 1940 the colour had changed to black. The buckle is date stamped 1938, maker marked 'F.R.' and the leather tag is stamped 'Franz Reschauer // Oberstein' around 1938. The reverse has unit markings. The black leather belt (1 m long) is date stamped 1940 and has an indecipherable maker stamp, possibly with Freiberg, the town. There is some age wear to the outer surface of the belt, possibly age scarring / moth tracking. However, the stitching is still in good shape and there are traces of field grey paint on the aluminium keeper. The buckle is die-struck aluminium, with considerable age wear abrasion to the body of the eagle and the whole front. However, as a representative example of a slightly salty Luftwaffe combat belt, this is an acceptable piece. |
