Title Lower Rhine SA prize medal
Nationality German
Period c 1943
Sold

The prize was awarded for the Wehrmannschaftwettkampf, which was a competition run for the Stormtroop home guard or Wehrmannschaft. The obverse has the logo 'Dem Sieger' (to the victor), together with the SA motif , and a scene from the Rhineland. The reverse details the area of the competition, Nieder (Lower) Rhein, and the competiton's nature.

This rare medal has an aluminium centre and two outside layers of what would appear to be bronze veneer with a gold wash finish. An interesting piece from a numismatic point of view, showing an extremely complex technical construction, no doubt the result of war time shortages of bronze.

Found the item a little on the expensive side and a bit disappointed that you were unwilling to bend a bit on the price of the Officer's Tunic Eagle (half the fun of buying, after all, is the haggling), but impressed by the speed of delivery and the quality of the item. Was well worth it in the long run...
