Title KuK officer's button
Nationality Austrian
Period c 1780-92
Price £35.00

This little gilt tunic button (2.5cm diameter) is of two-piece construction, with a brass back and gilding metal face. It bears the coat of arms of Leopold II, Emperor of Austria, who reigned 1780-92. Apart from the fighting with the Turks, this button might have seen service in the winter campaign against the French of 1793-94 in the Netherlands.

This is a die-struck button and the design is still in exceptional shape for its age. There is obviously some wear, but nothing serious and the legend around the rim is clearly legible.

The colouring of this button is nearer that of number 2. It has a nice slightly polished gilding metal look. I have cleaned the front only, using weak ammonia and a soft cloth. I have left the back as I found it.

Bayonet arrived safe + sound this AM Sat. Special delivery excellent again. Worth the few extra bob. To be honest it was better than I dared hope. I usually avoid polished bits like the plague!! Your price was a bit fierce!! - but a great marking I lacked... Please email me anytime you have anything that might be of interest.
